Next month, the Connecticut Department of Labor will be bringing on board six new wage and hour investigators. These new agents are being hired for a single purpose: to investigate Connecticut restaurants.
Given this significant new government initiative, it’s likely that, in the coming months, your establishment could face an audit.
Therefore, to help you be better prepared for these audits, the CRA, in conjunction with the legal team at Siegel, O’Connor, O’Donnell & Beck, will be holding a Wage & Hour Compliance Seminar which will cover a number of critical topics including how to survive a DOL audit, record keeping, overtime, tip credit, and exempt vs. non-exempt employees.
The seminar will be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 9:00am to 11:00am in Rooms 21 & 22 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. This will be a complimentary seminar for CRA members.
There will be a $50 fee for non-members to attend. Please RSVP to Justina Santiago at Santiago@ctrestaurant.org.
Furthermore, we have provided all members with a Labor and Employment Handbook for Connecticut Restaurants, which serves as a resource to help you understand current labor and employment law. The book was last updated in January 2013. If you do not have one, please contact Justina Santiago at Santiago@ctrestaurant.org or (860) 278-8008 ext. 115.
