About the Connecticut Hospitality Educational Foundation
The Connecticut Hospitality Educational Foundation (CHEF) is the non-profit 501(c)3, philanthropic arm of the Connecticut Restaurant Association (CRA).
The Connecticut Hospitality Educational Foundation (CHEF) is dedicated to advancing the state's hospitality industry by investing in its future workforce. Through a variety of programs, we provide education, training, and resources to help individuals of all ages and backgrounds build successful careers.
ProStart
As the state partner for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s ProStart program, CHEF works with high schools across Connecticut to give students a head start in the culinary arts and restaurant management. This program uses a curriculum developed by industry experts to teach both culinary techniques and business skills. Students gain real-world experience through mentorships and competitions, preparing them for college or a career right after graduation.
Workforce Development
CHEF offers targeted workforce development initiatives, including the national Restaurant Ready and HOPES (Hospitality Opportunities for People Entering Society) programs. These programs are designed to help individuals facing barriers to employment—such as at-risk youth or those with previous justice system involvement—acquire the foundational skills needed to secure and maintain jobs in the hospitality sector. We connect participants with local employers and provide essential life skills and job training to help them achieve independence.
Mental Health & Well-being
Recognizing the unique challenges and high-stress environment of the hospitality industry, CHEF also provides access to mental health resources. We promote a culture of well-being by raising awareness and connecting industry professionals to support services, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable workforce for the future.
Join us in supporting the next generation of culinary leaders through the CT Hospitality Educational Foundation! Our mission at CHEF is to enhance the health and prosperity of Connecticut's hospitality industry by investing in education, scholarships, wellness and workforce development.
