Our trusted training helps nurture & grow the restaurant industry workforce.

All restaurants in Connecticut are required to have a certified food protection manager on staff. The ServSafe Manager course will certify you as a certified food protection manager, formerly known as the QFO. We are currently offering three different options for certification: In-person classes, Online Classes with an In-Person Proctor and Online Classes with Take Exam at Home. 

All three options meet the state requirement for certification. Details for each are below. If you have any questions, email servsafe@ctrestaurant.org

ServSafe Manager In-person Classes

The ServSafe® program is developed by the National Restaurant Association with the help of foodservice industry experts who face the same risks you do every day. Your concerns are our concerns. 

Our ServSafe Food Safety Managers training meets the CT Department of Health requirements for food safety licensing. Every foodservice operation is required by the State of Connecticut to employ both a Certified Protection Manager (formerly QFO) and an Alternate, whose responsibilities not only include food safety, but staff training as well. You can view the Food Safety Regulations here.  Our instructors have an excellent record of success, with close to 90% of learners passing the ServSafe Manager exam on their first attempt. Our instructors will prepare you to get certified!

The ServSafe Manager training is conducted throughout Connecticut in one 8-hour session in a professional, conference atmosphere. ​​

ServSafe Manager Self Study
If you don't have time to take the full class or just want to study on your own, choose our Self Study option and then come to class at 1:30 pm to take your exam. Self Study option will include the book and proctored exam. Look for Self Study options on the class registrations.
Certification Only and Retakes
Look for "In-Person or Take at Home" Exam Only options on our event page.​ You can also take the paper exam at any of our In-person classes

ServSafe Manager Online Course

The ServSafe Manager Online Course is ideal for individuals who wish to prepare to take the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam.

This interactive course has been designed using the latest techniques in learning theory, to deliver current food safety information, in a fun and easy-to-use format. The course covers critical principles including: personal hygiene, cross contamination, time and temperature, cleaning and sanitizing, and more. A practice exam is included at the end of the course to help prepare for the proctored ServSafe Manager Certification exam.

All purchases of the ServSafe Manager Online Course are final. Once you begin the course, you will have 90 days to complete it, at which time the course will be deactivated.

TWO WAYS TO TAKE THE ONLINE TEST -- In-person or At Home

Online Class with In-Person Proctor

We are proctoring the online version of the exam at our office in Farmington in groups of 5 or less. Need to certify more than 5 people? Email servsafe@ctrestaurant.org to arrange for an in-person exam at our office.

Online proctoring at home for the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification Exam (English) is now available! Schedule your exam at a time that’s convenient for you, all you need is a computer or laptop and a private location. The date you choose for registration is just for processing and will not be your exam date. Exam must be scheduled through Proctor U.

This bundle includes the ServSafe Manager online course and the 90-question online Food Protection Manager Certification Exam and online proctoring through ProctorU. The purchase of this bundle also includes administration, processing and a ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification (valid for 5 years) upon successful completion of the exam.
Things you should know BEFORE you purchase this product:
  • To use the online proctoring service through ProctorU, you must have access to a computer (PC or Mac). Mobile and tablets are not supported. You must also have a working webcam/mic and a private location. Click here to do a basic system test.
  • Proctors give directions in English
  • After your purchase is complete, you will receive an email with a ServSafe Manager Exam Access Code and directions for scheduling your exam through ProctorU.
  • Review regulatory requirements to ensure the online exam is accepted in your area.

ServSuccess is the Association’s new career workforce development program.  ServSuccess provides learning opportunities across multiple career levels in a way that makes it convenient for our workforce to hone in on their skills and prepare for future career opportunities.  A Certificate of Completion will be provided once each course is fully viewed.
