Chef in Washington Hospitality Pathways Conference
Sophia and Shannon from the CHEF team attended the Hospitality Pathways Conference in last week, where they learnt more about re-entry workforce initiatives, gained valuable insights related to our HOPES grant, and connected with partners from across the country.
They’re excited to bring new ideas and best practices back to Connecticut, after hearing how other states are approaching similar initiatives and building connections with organizations doing this work nationwide.
Shannon also co-led a session on expanding industry partnerships within your own re-entry workforce initiatives, sharing some of the work we’ve been doing here in Connecticut. Want to get involved with our CT work? Click here for more information.
While at the conference, we were also excited to celebrate one of our valued community-based organization partners, Career Resources’ in Bridgeport.
Ashly Velez and Keysha Starks accepted the “HOPES Heart” Award on behalf of the organization, recognizing their outstanding commitment to the participants they serve, their dedication to the HOPES program, and the positive, supportive attitude they bring to their work.
We’re incredibly proud to partner with Career Resources and grateful for the passion and dedication Ashly, Keysha, and the entire Bridgeport team bring to supporting our participants. It was wonderful to see their hard work recognized at the conference!
CRAZIES Silent Auction Donations Wanted
It may only be August, but we’re already looking ahead to CRAZIES season! That means it’s time for CHEF to begin collecting items and experiences for this year’s CRAZIES Silent Auction.
Each year, the Silent Auction is an integral part of the CRAZIES, helping the Foundation raise funds that directly support ProStart, workforce development initiatives, and other CHEF programs.
We’re looking for unique and exciting donations, which in the past have included hotel stays, local experiences, event tickets, dinner experiences, and more!
If you or someone you know would be interested in donating an item or experience to the Silent Auction, please reach out to Shannon at murphy@ctrestaurant.org. Every donation helps us continue investing in the next generation of hospitality professionals!
Rachael Ray ProStart Grow Grant Application Open!
The Rachael Ray ProStart Grow Grant awards $5,000 to schools seeking to establish or strengthen a ProStart program. Eligible applicants must be current ProStart programs or commit to becoming a confirmed ProStart program during the following school year.
Applications for the 2026 Rachael Ray ProStart Grow Grant are now open, closing Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11:59PM. This grant is a great opportunity to expand high-quality culinary arts and restaurant management education for students.
Funding from Rachael Ray Foundation will provide schools the opportunity to upgrade or purchase new resources, build up their classrooms in preparation for return to school, and support teachers with whatever they need to help their students learn career-building skills.
