CHEF News: ✨ 2025 National ProStart Invitational Results!
The future of Connecticut's hospitality industry was on full display this past weekend as two champion teams represented the state with skill and professionalism at the 2025 National ProStart Invitational (NPSI) in Baltimore. We are thrilled to announce that New Haven's Wilbur Cross High School secured an impressive 7th place finish in the nation in the Restaurant Management Competition!
Facing off against 47 other top state teams, the Wilbur Cross students presented their unique restaurant concept, "Loaves and Locals," which skillfully blended the art of baking with a focus on the local art community. Their detailed business proposal, featuring menu items like Steak Banh Mi, Grilled Chicken Pesto Panini, and Citrus Chocolate Knots, was put to the test in a challenging "Shark Tank" style presentation before a panel of industry professionals. The judges evaluated their concept, menu development, marketing strategies, and critical thinking skills.
Also representing Connecticut with distinction was the Enfield High School Culinary Team. As State Champions, they competed fiercely against 47 other teams, ultimately placing 29th.
The team demonstrated exceptional culinary artistry under pressure, preparing a sophisticated three-course meal in less than 60 minutes using only two butane burners. Their menu featured Asian Spring Rolls, Beef Tataki Wrapped in Nori with Gochujang Ramen, Wilted Baby Bok Choy & Pickled Radish, and Mango Sticky Rice Wontons for dessert. They were judged rigorously on taste, presentation, cooking technique, knife skills, menu difficulty, safety, and sanitation.
The National ProStart Invitational brought together over 400 students from 48 states, all vying for top honors and a share of nearly $200,000 in scholarships to support their future aspirations in the restaurant and hospitality industry. The Connecticut Hospitality Educational Foundation (CHEF) extends immense pride and congratulations to both the Wilbur Cross and Enfield teams. Their hard work, creativity, and poise under pressure were truly commendable. Well done, teams!
We also extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated educators, mentors, families, and all our generous supporters whose contributions make participation in ProStart and events like the National ProStart Invitational possible for these talented students. You are investing directly in the next generation of hospitality leaders!
