Line Cook - JRego's Gathering Place

Seeking a Line Cook at JRego's Gathering Place in Ellington, CT. Part-time position. $18-$19/hour.

Duties will include: 

  • Prep Work and Mise en Place:
    • Arrive on time and ready to prep ingredients before service begins.
    • Maintain a clean, organized station with all tools and ingredients prepped (chopped, measured, portioned).   
    • Follow recipes and portion sizes exactly to ensure consistency.
  • Cooking and Execution:
    • Cook dishes to order with precision, adhering to the restaurant’s standards for presentation and taste.
    • Manage multiple orders simultaneously, prioritizing timing to ensure dishes are served hot and fresh.
    • Communicate clearly with the kitchen team, calling out orders and coordinating with other stations.
  • Cleanliness and Safety:
    • Keep your station clean and sanitized during and after shifts, following health codes.
    • Practice proper food handling to avoid cross-contamination.
    • Maintain personal hygiene (clean uniform, hair restrained, no excessive jewelry).
  • Teamwork and Communication:  
    • Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff, sous chefs, and head chefs.
    • Stay calm under pressure, especially during busy service periods.
    • Be receptive to feedback and adapt quickly to changes in orders or menu items.   
  • Efficiency and Speed:
    • Work quickly without sacrificing quality, especially during peak hours.
    • Anticipate needs, such as restocking ingredients or cleaning as you go, to avoid delays.
    • Manage time effectively to handle high-volume orders.    
  • Professionalism and Growth:   
    • Show reliability by being punctual and consistent in your work.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques, dishes, or kitchen roles.
    • Handle constructive criticism professionally and strive to improve.
