Temporary Chef - Guilford Center for Children
Position Overview: Guilford Center for Children is seeking a reliable, organized, and safety-focused Temporary Chef to support our early education program for an 8-week assignment.
The Chef is responsible for preparing and serving daily breakfast, lunch (two waves), and preparing snacks while maintaining a clean, sanitary, and well-organized kitchen environment.
The ideal candidate is ServSafe Manager certified (or eligible), experienced in food safety practices, and comfortable working efficiently in a structured school dining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve daily breakfast, lunch, and snack in accordance with posted menus and service schedules for approximately 75 children per day
- Ensure timely meal preparation for multiple lunch waves and classroom service needs
- Set and reset dining tables with appropriate utensils and serving materials
- Maintain accurate food service counts and accommodate classroom schedules (including special classroom arrangements)
- Follow strict sanitation and food safety procedures, including use of sanitizing solutions and proper food storage
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness including counters, sinks, and appliances
- Track supply needs & communicate inventory shortages
- Follow allergy protocols and special dietary considerations
- Prepare ingredients for the following day, including proper thawing and storage procedures
Qualifications
- ServSafe Manager Certification strongly preferred, at minimum ServSafe Handler required (or willing to complete Handler Certification prior to hire)
- Prior experience in food service, commercial kitchen, or school setting preferred
- Experience cooking in quantity.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food storage practices
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
Compliance Requirements Employment is contingent upon:
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check
- Fingerprinting in accordance with state licensing requirements
- Clearance through all required childcare regulatory agencies
