Dear Connecticut Restaurant Community,
As coronavirus (COVID-19) begins to spread in Connecticut, we have received many calls from members, elected officials and the press about our industry's response to this public health emergency. No other industry is more vigilant and dedicated to the highest level of sanitation and safety than the restaurant and foodservice industry. We are uniquely positioned to deal with this crisis, as restaurants are run by highly trained professionals committed to the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities.
The CRA has been in constant communication with the National Restaurant Association, our state partners and legislative leaders to provide the most up-to-date information. Yesterday, Governor Lamont signed an Executive Order, which prohibits events over 250 people and this order applies to all gatherings for social and recreational activities. They include but are not limited to: community, civic, leisure, sports, parades, concerts, festivals, movie screenings, conventions, fundraisers and similar activities. This prohibition of large gatherings shall remain in effect until April 30, 2020.
In addition, the Executive Order:
- Modifies the state law requiring schools to be in for 180 days;
- Clarifies visitor restrictions at all nursing and convalescent homes;
- Authorizes DMV to extend renewal deadlines to reduce crowds at DMV branches; and
- Relaxes attendance rules for police academy trainees

We were also informed last night that the State Capitol and Legislative Office Building will temporary close. The current legislative session has been put on "pause" and plans to reopen on March 30.
